Seeing this on my activity feed after upgrade to 4.0 http://rvhappyhour.com/activity/
%INITIATOR% wrote on %TARGET% Wall
Up to date on all plugins and WordPress. Upgraded to BB4 and BB Wall plugin 1.0 Not using BuddyBoss Media, Have rtMedia Pro instead. Also I’m still using 3.* child theme.
I didn’t see this in staging but I likely never tested the action.
Tried deactivating all plugins but BuddyPress and BuddyBoss Wall and using 2014 Theme.
The %INITIATOR% wrote on %TARGET% Wall string still remains.
@raytronx these are now part of the database. These are unable to be changed. You will need to disable all plugins and try to write on another users wall to determine if this issue persists without plugins. Can you please try that and confirm it is still an issue?
I’ve tried looking in our theme/plugin files and I was unable to find a reference to these words.
It seems that it happened to a person that had a friend request pending with another member but hadn’t been answered yet. I see the term initiator is used in some of the BuddyPress friend related php files.
Makes me think initiator equals the member making the friend request and target is the target of the friend request.
I see the wall plugin now has a check box – “Allow Wall posting for all members (not just friends).” I don’t have it checked.
I wonder if the bug is related to this new feature.
I will do some testing without plugins tomorrow, thanks.
@raytronx I tried your suggestion of initiating the request but I am unable to post on their wall. Do you have any files in your child theme that may be conflicting? We moved many files from the child theme to the plugins and would require new child theme/plugin files in order to work properly. So I guess what I am asking is if the function works with the parent theme active. Let me know.
I can’t seem to reproduce the bug on my test site, so I’m taking out my 3.* child theme and installing the 4.0 child theme on my live site and then will only add in my CSS edits to custom.css and Google Analytic code to the header.php. I’ll leave out all the custom functions I had and see if that corrects the issue.
Will let you know
Cheers Ray
Hi @tjchester @michael
Problem still exists but I found a repeatable pattern.
It happens when a new user registers and another member comments on the activity.
That’s why I didn’t see it in staging site.
So for example if the activity is:
“Melody Twigg became a registered member 1 week ago”
and another member comes along and comments on this activity, then at the next page refresh it becomes. %INITIATOR% wrote on %TARGET% Wall
Also in the wordpress backend under activity it shows as

Hope you can help. Thanks Ray
Going through my activity on the backend I’m seeing this in lot more actions as well but it’s not affecting the front end like the above mentioned. But it appears on all New Friendships, Group Joins, Profile updated and always shows these warning lines.

Can confirm this seems to be an issue! I’m not sure if this same issue could happen when members post on each others walls.. it might be related to Admins posting towards regular member walls
Just as a further note on this ,I’ve disable the BB wall plugin on my live site and all the backend activity listings returned to normal and on the front end the “%INITIATOR% wrote on %TARGET% Wall” has returned to the normal action phrases.
Thanks, noted and documented.
Hmm I am actually facing the same msg when posting on my own wall using bb4. % initiator posted an update just now.
Still unsure how to fix this.
We’re working on it, first priority bug.
