Question
December 18, 2012 at 7:18 am #7513@rkarelIt would be desirable to learn about the future of photo albums and photo loadings. At present there is no differentiation on loading in group or in a profile, in any case a photo to appear in an album of the user, it can create doubles of images. And in activity even it is impossible to understand where exactly the image was loaded. Whether it will be also interesting opportunity to create some albums and albums of groups. Your system is visually perfectly worked, but isn’t functional

AlyssaParticipant@rkarel there used to be an album feature for BuddyPress but it was not very good. WordPress really needs to make some advancements here to make it easier for us to work on this feature. Sorry I don’t have better news for you.

January 22, 2014 at 6:44 am #22225@robi-bobiis there something new in this area?
it would be great to have multiple albumsFebruary 1, 2014 at 9:13 pm #22903@palmdocYes it would be great if the Photo/Picture uploads by users could be organised by users into individual albums.
February 13, 2014 at 12:54 pm #23453@gwonbbThis theme is really outstanding and very well done, not to mention the tech support provided on this forum is quite responsive.
My only real gripe is there not being a way for site members to organize photos on their profiles. Having an album of some sort is key feature I really need.
I tried using the RTmedia plugin, but that doesn’t seem like a well-integrated solution since it results in a separate “Media” tab (along with its own sub-navs for Photos, Video…) being created in addition to the already existing BuddyPress Photos tab. And also, the photo upload user interface provides two different user experiences, depending on which area you choose to upload photos from.
Does anyone have any good recommendations on an album/gallery plugin that integrates well with BuddyBoss (i.e., the existing Photos tab)?

AnonymousThanks for the compliments. We realize photo albums are a highly requested feature. We are actively in the process of removing the photos features from the theme and converting that into a plugin – which existing customers will get access to. Then once it is a plugin we will be able to more easily expand on its feature set, including photo albums.
This will also remove any compatibility issues between BuddyBoss and other photo/media plugins, as all of our photos code will be removed. So you could just not use our plugin and use a competitor’s, or you could use our plugin. It’ll be a better setup that I am looking forward to.
February 24, 2014 at 3:36 pm #23802@cwilliamsMichael do we have any idea when this will be done ” The process of removing the photos features from the theme and converting that into a plugin –” I have a client now that has requested a modified version with albums and in speaking with my staff we found that Right now there is a feature in buddyboss to upload profile photos and group photos.
The client wants to make it manageable by admin, so that user a can manage albums, and upload photos in particular albums. If our understanding is correct, we will have to customize code of buddyboss theme to achieve this functionality. and that would be about 56 working hours for us so i am trying to see if this is coming out anytime soon or if I can hold the client off by developing something to gain the same goal until you have completed your update so i was trying to see if it is worth having my team start on thisFebruary 26, 2014 at 2:05 pm #24020@
AnonymousWe have been edging closer to Photos being a plugin with each release. Behind the scenes we have been moving code around to continue the separation. There is still a fair amount of work to go, mainly with Javascript. Right now the Javascript for Photos, Wall and BuddyBoss/BuddyPress is largely intermingled. We need to finish the separation so that Photos and Wall have their own unique Javascript entirely, and then also so that they are able to insert all of their content without any theme file edits (as they will need to work with any theme once they are plugins). Then we need to set them up as proper plugins.
I don’t have a guaranteed timeline for you. This is our top priority project right now, but it will take some time as you can imagine. I only want to release these plugins after they have been thoroughly tested with a lot of themes. Expect it to be months rather than just a couple of weeks… If we’re fast we may be done with it all more rapidly, but I don’t want to give people expectations that we do not meet. These will be new products so I can assume we will face challenges and bugs that will delay the initial release.
The photos plugin will begin as basically a duplicate of what you see now, just to get it ripped out of the theme and available as a plugin in a timely manner. Likely the first big update to it post-release will be the addition of photo albums. And then I’d like a back-end admin panel to manage photos.
For you, if you really need albums immediately and it’s delaying your site’s release, I would suggest you use http://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-album/ for now. It’s a bit unpolished in my opinion but it will give you photo albums now. Then when we release our own albums down the line, if you want to switch to our method you can pay a developer just to migrate the data over, which should not be all that time consuming.
February 26, 2014 at 3:24 pm #24029@cwilliamsI Have developers on my staff so no it would not be I was just wanting to see your progress I have reviewed the referenced Plug-in and i agree It’s a bit unpolished in my opinion also and its not the level of code quality my clients have come to trust I will start my staff on a version to work with your Theme as i alwys use your Core as a starting point on all of our BP projects As i told you of the other BP-pages project we are working on for the same client I will send this along for your review when its done if the code is a help to your team your are welcome t0 use any or all of it
