Why should we install beta software on live sites to fix a bug that should be patched when the beta version is beta and still has other bugs and is not ready for public sites?
Makes no sense to me………..

And finally, if you just do it the old school way and configure widgets under Appearance / Widgets — it works. Its just using the Appearance –> Customize where all the errors are being thrown.

The error is preventing widgets from being configured (such as Widgets: Members -> Directory and trying to add the Buddypress widgets)

I’m getting the error too, same exact symptoms as Ryan. Fresh install of everything, WP 3.9.1 and just bought the plugin a few minutes ago.
