I haven’t found a solution to this issue, but there is a thread in the BuddyDev BP Gallery forum where the developer has been asked this question, waiting for the answer…

Note: the Gallery tab doesn’t work right but the Show: drop-down selection box does work at showing “Recent Gallery Updates” only.

Yes it has some custom code – I used what you had shown in this thread to get a similar look of this site’s main menu bar.

BP Gallery has had a few recent updates now at version 1.3.4

I was having an issue with the inline editing not working due to the save/cancel button not being visible with in the confines of the thumbnail area, that was solved in the recent updates.

Solved my login bug, may be related to the OPs, not sure.

I log in and when changing from one category or page to another on the main menu, sometimes the log in displays I’m logged out. But a page refresh straightens it out and I’m shown logged in, it’s weird like some sort of strange cache problem.

One of my users has complained of something like this, says he gets errors message when trying to use activity and is sent to desktop to upload. He is the only one out of around 100 users with this problem, he is able to use the BBpress forum section fine.

I asked his browser and OS but haven’t heard back yet.

OK overflow problem fixed by editing the file wp-content/plugins/bp-gallery/gallery-theme-compat/gallery/inc/css/structure.css

Did a quick test on my site and BP Gallery works for the most part. Most of the issues have to do with looks and formatting of things. Really doesn’t look very good compared to the BuddyBoss styling. Things out of line and text not quite in the right places. But most of the functionality seems there.
