I’ve been looking for something similar. I want to restrict the use of certain symbols as well as length (most ASCII characters are disabled, but @ for some reason is not). I haven’t fully researched how, though.

@tjchester I think it was designed like this because usernames are unique and display names are not. I know I have a few members on my site with the same display name, so it could get confusing when sending a message.

@michael The current version doesn’t work with the new forums. BP 1.7 uses BBPress 2+ which doesn’t work with BuddyBoss styles. Using the legacy BP forums works fine, though.

@sorensen84 This code is part of the default theme. It should show when you login. Have you tried clearing your cache to make sure it isn’t a browser issue (maybe you just changed from another theme)?

@cutters123 Both of these are premium plugins, they are only free up to the first few thousand users. I would recommend looking for a plugin that is either truly free, or has only a one time fee to pay.

These are things you have to add yourself, as they’re part of BuddyPress.
Go to Users > Profile Fields in your wp-admin page. You can create and edit the fields there.

You can just download BuddyBoss again and copy paste it from the new download. Check your purchase email for the download link.
