Hi @touchmyweb,
It will need to apply lots of css code inorder to make a page go full even if it does not have content . This may distort the theme’s default styling .

Sorry but we do not have any inbuilt option to apply custom icons in Buddypanel in theme . You can use following css to remove default icons.
#left-panel a::before {
content: "" !important;
}
