AnonymousHas anyone else had their settings from the built in customizer reset after doing any of the updates to boss?
Installed boss, set all my custom settings. Installed the boss updates as they were available and it set everything in the customizer back to default. Just curious if this is a known issue with other users or just me.

Designers and developers use child themes to speed up their development. When using a good parent theme, you can drastically reduce the time it takes for you to create a WordPress site. All good parent themes aka theme frameworks offer tons of functionality and customization options ecommend child themes only if you find yourself constantly adding new functions to your theme’s functions.php file and/or constantly adding/modifying the style.css file of your theme.

AnonymousYes, I have some edits in my child theme. In the wordpress dashboard I also went to appearance > customize to set things like menus, colors, layouts, etc with the built in boss theme editor. Those are the customizations that didn’t stick with the 2 minor boss updates.

AnonymousWhat I’ve just noticed happen is after updating boss, going back into the customizer, my settings were still there but not taking effect on my site. Closing the customizer set my settings back.
Seems like updating the theme set the color scheme to default, but opening/closing the customizer set my settings back…
February 4, 2015 at 2:48 am #35393@style960@ionprojekt This was a problem reported with the beta when updating, I’m sure it will be resolved soon. I’ve already done my update without touching the Customizer otherwise I’d test it myself. On the child theme note – I’d always recommend using them. Even with the most expansive of themes, I’ve never had a situation where I didn’t need to write at least some custom css. I wouldn’t gamble on that Customizer retaining settings every time you update a theme, I have seen it fail. And of course using a child theme is the recommended process in WP Codex 🙂
February 4, 2015 at 4:12 pm #35415@style960@ionprojekt I changed a couple of Customizer options before just upgrading to 1.0.3 and like you, they were reset after upgrade. A message is displayed in the WordPress Updates screen advising to check the options.css file exists in the parent theme with the appropriate permissions assigned – which in my case it is. However, that file size remains at 0 so it looks like it’s not being written too. One for the devs I guess.
