Question
April 19, 2015 at 3:24 pm #39134@pawsitivevybeThat cancel friendship as the call to action on all your friends is kind of jarring and off-putting. Please consider hiding that behind a more button or something. Please. It’s a social network.

April 20, 2015 at 1:27 pm #39149@rugwarriorI think it comes from BuddyPress but a +1 from me to hide it on the members list at least
April 20, 2015 at 1:40 pm #39150@pawsitivevybeIt’s really rough on my friend’s profile pages as well. Just a big bright “cancel friendship” button – not exactly what I want to think when I’m visiting my friend’s profile to see what’s happening with her dogs.
And I am in no way trying to be provocative, it really affects me when I see it so visibly attached to people who I want to be connected to.
April 21, 2015 at 9:00 am #39196@ttpgolf14I agree that should go or at least not be as visible make it a drop down

AlyssaParticipant@pawsitivevybe @rugwarrior @ttpgolf14 I have sent this request to our designers, hopefully they can figure something out that looks good and is still intuitive.
April 21, 2015 at 2:35 pm #39217@danielw1nk+1, it’s too prominent on the page.
April 22, 2015 at 9:01 am #39236@angslycke+1!! Thanks for bringing this up, this issue is really annoying. I want to encourage my users to send each other messages and mention each other, and that’s not intuitive now with the hidden “…” button menu.
May I suggest a small panel with buttons if space is an issue? Perhaps a +-sign with a silhuette for adding a friend, a @-sign for mentions and an envelope sign for private messages. The cancel friendship button can be hidden behind a “…” sign or moved away completely. We don’t want to encourage people to remove their friends.
I think you can find the above mentioned icons in Font Awesome for retina support.

AnonymousWe’ll work on this for a future release.
May 13, 2015 at 7:47 pm #40173@antonkawasakiThanks, @michael! This was always a lame design from BuddyPress, so it’s always nice when theme designers correct that mistake. 😉
I take it that it’s not in the update coming this week?
May 13, 2015 at 9:09 pm #40174@
AnonymousIt’s actually out now, pushed the update earlier today. If you go to a user’s profile the main button now says “Private Message” and Cancel Friendship is in the dropdown. If you’re on Members directory, there is no Cancel Friendship button at all. You must got to their profile to see it. There is a Cancel button on your Friendships page in your profile, as that page is designed to manage your friendships specifically.
May 13, 2015 at 9:24 pm #40175@pawsitivevybeBoom! Sweet!
Thanks a bunch. Much more friendly and social.
Peace~
RonMay 13, 2015 at 10:12 pm #40176@pawsitivevybeOh, just noticed, the cancel friendship is still a problem on the “members” pages.
Please consider applying the same, or similar fix to the members page.
May 14, 2015 at 7:45 am #40190@snikayI have “BuddyPress Follow” Plugin installed. So for me, now i don’t see the “friendship” button, but the “follow/unfollow” button. Is there a way to fix it? Because i would bet to not be the only one using follow-plugin.
Also in the Members section it looks like something could be done with follow/private message..?
May 14, 2015 at 10:56 am #40207@antonkawasaki@snikay When you have the “BuddyPress Follow” plugin (as I do), the add/cancel friendship stuff gets pushed into the “…” drop-down menu next to Follow/Unfollow. I think it’s much better this way!
May 14, 2015 at 1:09 pm #40211@snikayRight! I was just thinking, as this update came out, it would be nice to have it working the same way with “BuddyPress Follow” plugin. But while talking..maybe you’re right and i stay with the button as it is 🙂
