Question
September 29, 2014 at 1:11 am #32087@milenaHi, I am not sure , but I think I remember having a link/ button/ tab (?) to create a new group from within the profile.
Now I see this link in the admin bar menu (top menu) and if I go to the group page.
I am on the latest 4.06 version of buddyboss, wp 4.0, buddypress 2.02.
(@tjchester you can log in as an admin and see this)
P.s users are allowed to create groups too.
Thanks

AlyssaParticipant@milena I honestly don’t recall if this was a function, however we do not edit the groups page. It is a bbpress function, you will need to ask them. If it shows up when using the default twentyfourteen theme let me know and I’ll look into it right away.
October 5, 2014 at 5:58 pm #32265@interglobalmediaHi,
I have had something similar happen. I used to have a group page as well as a link to groups within my side navigation menu I’m a part of on my profile page. Now I have a blank groups page and no link to the groups I’m a part of within my profile. I think this occurred after one of my latest Buddyboss updates. I don’t recall any bbPress updates lately. Groups are part of Buddypress anyway, and not bbPress.
October 5, 2014 at 6:26 pm #32268@interglobalmediahi,
It appears that Buddypress has changed how groups work. I had turned off group creation for everyone and would be the only one to be able to create groups, and the groups I would create would still show up. That is no longer the case. if you turn off the “Anyone can great a group” feature, groups don’t show up at all. So I turned the feature back on, and groups showed up again. Everything works. Wonder whether it makes sense to have both groups and forums.
October 6, 2014 at 1:31 am #32271@milenaHi Maria @interglobalmedia
I also turned off “everyone can create groups” cause I want to have the groups limited to my online classes. But my groups are categorized as private – I thought that’s why they don’t show up. I think an open group would- I will test this.
@tjchester I tested the group button creation link on another theme and it seems that either bbpress changed their appearance settings or I don’t remember correctly. In the default theme – the link to create a group also appears only in an admin profile and on the general group page, not the profile one. I tested this before limiting the group creation to admin only.

AlyssaParticipantI am pretty sure this is a bbpress change. Bummer as it’s not as intuitive any more to make these changes 🙁
October 7, 2014 at 8:36 am #32314@interglobalmedia@tjchester @milena it is not a bbpress change. It’s Buddypress. I tested. I guess they no longer want the administrator to have complete control over creating groups for whatever reason. Kind of sucks, and makes me rethinking groups. What is different in bbpress is that Buddypress groups can now have their own forums, if you have groups “turned on”.
October 7, 2014 at 9:08 am #32317@milena@interglobalmedia no I think you have a mistake.
There are two different pages in buddypress settings- one says let users have groups and the other says let all users create groups.
I have the first one on and the second off. I can create a group and add you to it- from within my admin back end- just go to “groups”. I have 2 private groups that don’t show up and one open that does. I can see them in my profile.
If I sign out and enter as – different user I can see only the open group, and have a link to join it if I want.
Groups are great. I wish you could bulk message your groups too.October 7, 2014 at 9:29 am #32318@interglobalmediaReally? I couldn’t find it. have you updated to the most recent Buddypress?
October 7, 2014 at 9:32 am #32319@interglobalmediaBecause with the latest Buddypress, when I turn off “everyone can create groups”, my groups page disappears in the Buddypress pages area (no longer recognized), and when I view the page itself, it’s empty. And as far as I can tell, there is no other place where I can control “users can join groups”. I had it set up the same way as you, but now it no longer appears to be available!
October 7, 2014 at 9:36 am #32320@milenaI actually updated and then went and re-installed the previous version. So I don’t know about that..
The reason I did was because the latest update had some major changes with the translation.
These guys are incredible- they just deleted the language folder all together, now you have to learn a whole new way to save your translations. But that was not a public notice or something, they just left a bunch of people with no translations until their forum exploded.
So I am planning not to update for a while. Until I have the time to read and learn the new way to use the translations.
By the way this whole thing with updates is totally freaking me out. How can one have a functioning site with all these constant changes?
Cheers
October 7, 2014 at 9:44 am #32321@milenaSince my site is translated i can’t see the original names for the pages, but here are the links
http:/YOURSITE.COM/wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-components
check “v” for groups (
http://YOURSITE.COM/wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-settings
Uncheck the
“Enable group creation for all users”
Administrators can always create groups, regardless of this setting.
in group settings.
please let me know if you find these, in case I will wish to update in the future for some crazy reason.October 7, 2014 at 10:14 am #32323@interglobalmediaMilena,
I just realized a big new problem I have. It’s my membership plugin that has changed and thus made the administrator Separate from the site so to speak. So I could administer, but not be a part of everything. This probably partially stemmed from issues I was having with another membership plugin that screwed up my site in a big way. Then everything seemed pretty ok when I started using the plugin I have now. However, I think they want people to buy their support package, so they made things more “difficult”. Now I have to find another plugin that is just more “administrator friendly”. This is going to be a major pain in the butt! So I hear you! That is also the drawback to open source. Although, I love it despite its challenges!
October 7, 2014 at 10:15 am #32324@interglobalmediaAnd that’s what screwed up my groups!
