For me this is a BIG issue. I use LearnDash. Here we have the ability to have a group, perhaps the employees in a department, and we can then enrol the whole group onto a course in one easy step. Over time, we enrol this group onto a number of courses – the learning plan for the whole department.

Now, having moved to BP in order to grow the LMS and add a social dimension, I find I cannot do this with BP groups. So, I cannot combine the social aspects of BP with the LMS facilities in LearnDash.

It seems that the Buddy use of a group is different from the Learndash use. In Buddy the group is related to a single course and then, when anyone enrols on the course they get access to the group. This means that you could be interacting in the group with just about anyone on the planet if it is an open and public course.

This is not how learning designers see a group. To them, and to Learndash, a group is a group of people having similar characteristics, for example, a class in a school, a department of a business or a whole company. The learndash group have similar learning needs and so it is logical to have a group able to link to many courses.

I need to test further but I think we have to see Buddy groups as different from Learndash groups and maybe use them side by side. We use the Learndash groups as an easy means of enrolling everyone on a course. We then set up a Buddy group having the same members as the Learndash group, not linked to any course. The Buddy group can then be used by the group members to discuss the courses they have.

Hey @icuc , definitely Learndash groups are different from buddypress groups. Learndash adds option to groups users from back end . you can use both approach at same time. If your are enrolling complete learndash group to some courses those users will also get enrolled to corresponding Buddypress group.

Buddypress group as additional feature of each course where each user can discuss with each other for a specific course.
