Question
April 8, 2016 at 7:15 pm #67471@tami73So we are having a strange problem on one of our sites using the Boss theme. Sporadically it shows the mobile theme by default when viewing from a desktop. This only happens when using firefox or chrome and does not happen when using edge or safari.
Is there a way to disable the mobile theme altogether on desktops? Basically force desktops and tablets to show only the desktop theme?

Go to Buddyboss > Boss theme > Layout . There you can see the options to have desktop view for Desktop and Tablet .

AnveApril 9, 2016 at 8:52 am #67533@tami73Thanks but I already have that active. The problem is that for those who have already chosen mobile view, they will be stuck in that view forever! Plus the mobile theme still shows up.

We have 4 different wordpress installs with separate instances of the theme installed and this issue is happening with them all. Like I said it is sporadic behaviour and event though I said that it is not happening with edge or safari, actually it’s happening with them all, its just because the behaviour is sporadic that it appeared not to before.
I have noticed that it seems to be a caching issue with either cloud flare or w3 total cache because when I turn off the cache for a minute then refresh the page, it then loads correctly. I then have to manually clear the cache for the changes to take effect. I am having to do this daily to clear the mobile version of the site from displaying on desktop.

AnveMay 16, 2016 at 5:31 pm #70458@tami73We finally figured it out! So for anyone else who is exeperiencing the mobile site showing on desktop or desktop site on mobile with budyboss, it seems that it is a catching issue that happens with themes that allow the mobile site to be viewed on desktop and vice versa. In my case it happened while using the W3 total cache plugin along with buddyboss. The solution can be found courtesy of the WPtouch Mobile Plugin on this link: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/seeing-mobile-theme-on-desktopdesktop-theme-on-mobile
In essence the mobile user agents need to be rejected from caching to prevent the inconsistent behaviour. Hope this helps someone 🙂

May 20, 2016 at 3:17 am #70549@tami73@noodweerbe we use varnish too but honestly I can’t think of how you can go about rejecting mobile user agents without a plugin. Might I suggest that you install w3 total cache anyway and follow the instructions? They work pretty well together.
