Question
October 16, 2014 at 2:34 pm #32645@style960An issue I’ve reported with BB Media is still unresolved with version 1.0.6, along with some new problems:
Photo selection is NEVER accepted first time. I always have to select Gallery and the choose the photo a minimum of two times, generally I have to repeat that action 3-5 times.
Press post update and it appears no photo has uploaded. Manually refresh the page and the photo shows.
Now a problem I’ve never seen before is present on Android, this – https://www.buddyboss.com/support-forums/topic/photoswipe-blacks-out-after-a-second/
The exact same symptoms are new to me when using 1.0.6
This behaviour introduces new problems for me so the update is a regression in that sense. I hope this plugin will be functional at some point in the future.
HTC One X
Android 4.2.2 (4.18.771.7_R1)
Chrome 38.0.2125.102Paul.

iOS 7.0.2 (11A501)
October 16, 2014 at 4:47 pm #32649@style960The Android issue only appears to be present when logged in. Not sure about iOS. Also, the edit / comment icon on photos shouldn’t be visible to visitors.

Anonymous@style960 1.0.6 doesn’t fix every known bug, but it fixes a number of important bugs. We’re working on more fixes still. The issues documented here are known bugs, including the Photoswipe blacks out after a second. That bug was reported in early October, so your experience of it after 1.0.6 is probably not due to the update as it was a known bug before. More fixes to come…
October 17, 2014 at 1:37 pm #32680@style960@michael Understood. Although your last comment on that thread does describe the photo swipe issue as “fixed”? The initial upload bug has been consistent throughout all versions for myself.

Anonymous@style960 Yes, the issue is resolved. However it is a “partial fix” in that some other Ajax calls happening on your site (from other plugins, etc) could still initiate the problem. For the most part, it was going black because of BuddyPress 2.1’s “heart beat” integration where new posts appear live. We’re working on a more fool proof solution.
Initial upload bug:
Press post update and it appears no photo has uploaded. Manually refresh the page and the photo shows.
If that is the case, the photo upload probably worked. If you wait another 5 seconds it will probably show, without refresh. It is an issue that the progress bar shows 100% once the upload is finished, but the server still needs to process some things before the image is delivered back to your browser, which can take a few seconds and appear like a broken upload while you wait. In short, we need better progress indication.
October 17, 2014 at 4:02 pm #32682@style960@michael Ok, thanks. The initial upload issue is:
Photo selection is NEVER accepted first time. I always have to select Gallery and the choose the photo a minimum of two times, generally I have to repeat that action 3-5 times.
The photo source prompt, in my case Camera, Camcorder, Voice Recorder, Choose Music Track, Dropbox, Gallery, Photos, Select Music Track, Voice Recorder entitled ‘Choose an action’ is repeatedly displayed. I have to select the same photo multiple times before an upload begins.

Got it, thanks. I’ve yet to actually be able to reproduce that behavior, but we’ll do our best to replicate it.
October 18, 2014 at 9:47 am #32692@leighgreggSame here for select file on Samsung – Note 3, using Chrome. I have to go through the procedure twice before file is selected. This is for all sources. The image is then rotated 90 degrees from portrait to landscape in thumbnail and slideshow.
Same issues with laptop upload too.
Was this plugin ever tested before its release? Seems from other forums, it was never really working, yet it is still being sold on the site.I was surprised the update didn’t come through automatically either. Does this mean that people have to continue checking back to check for updates?

AnonymousWorking on a fix for the twice-upload issue. It wasn’t noticed in testing because it’s a rare issue. The plugin has been out for some time now and only a couple people have reported that bug.
90 degree rotation – this is a problem that happens with smartphones for any web media uploads, not actually related to the plugin. We have an option in Settings > BuddyBoss Media to fix image rotation (we rotate the image on the server). It’s not on by default because it’s rather memory hungry, and not all server setups (cheap shared hosting) can handle that.
Updates should come through automatically. This is the first I’ve heard of it not working. You may just need to refresh your dashboard a couple times for it to ping for the update.
October 18, 2014 at 1:32 pm #32697@leighgreggAh Ha, yes, right, hadn’t seen the settings available for the plugin….I thought there wasn’t any last time I tried the plugin – – I thought it was too bugged up to go near. I have tried so many plugin options for a clean and simple photo upload to activity, but they are all too fancy for there own good. None provided a robust and decent, reliable solution.
Yes, the progress bar for upload needs to be more accurate to the delivery of the photo on screen. Even an easy solution would be to make it 20% behind the real upload. A nice way to impress, is to deliver before promised. An ajax spinner on mobile upload would improve than the “weak looking” percentage. Or something nicer, more confident. Long group names cover over the percentage number on mobile view. – buddyboss theme.
October 18, 2014 at 1:33 pm #32698@leighgreggThe update issue, I had refreshed the whole site a lot over the last few days, to no apparent update available on the plugin.
October 18, 2014 at 1:34 pm #32699@leighgreggThumbnails on the profile page Photo section are squashed versions of the whole image. This needs improving too.
Thanks
