Question
September 13, 2014 at 6:43 am #31533@style960Live notifications as used on Facebook, Twitter etc. would be much slicker than relying on a page refresh. Also used in the Kleo theme – http://themeforest.net/item/kleo-next-level-premium-wordpress-theme/6776630
Thanks,

AlyssaParticipant@style960 this is on the to do list. Not sure where it is in the priorities though.
September 13, 2014 at 5:42 pm #31566@style960@tjchester Excellent, thanks.

October 30, 2014 at 5:58 pm #33112@style960@tjchester Will this request definitely be happening? @michael has stated Buddyboss will be staying pretty much ‘as is’, but we’re told most of these features are on the list. Very difficult for me to use Buddyboss without instant notifications, and I need to make a decision on a theme in the next few days and stick with it. Can we have some solid feedback/timeline please?

Anonymous@style960 This is something we may do as a plugin, that way it can work with any theme, including future themes that we will be rolling out. I would suggest using whichever theme gives you what you need now, as we won’t be doing anything like this in the next few days… and if we release a plugin you can use it with any theme. Currently we’re working on a Live Search plugin, which will populate your search field with a single drop-down of results from all BuddyPress components together, it’s pretty cool.
October 31, 2014 at 9:14 am #33138@style960@michael I’ve contacted the Live Notifications author to see if he can come up with a fix. If I choose to use BuddyBoss I couldn’t put a site live without that feature – it’s immediately obvious to even the most novice user that notifications aren’t instant. Having to perform a page refresh to generate a notification is really poor, I struggle to believe this hasn’t been addressed in the core. This is currently the only issue that would force me to use another theme, when I really don’t want to. I have found a thread on the support forums from 2012 around this topic though, so maybe I will need to go elsewhere. I’ll keep an eye out for the new plugin, thanks.

Anonymous@style960 Thanks for contacting him. Can you send me the thread you found? We really may do this as a plugin, just won’t be ready soon as we haven’t even started… I think it’s a smart idea for a plugin.

Anonymous@style960 Maybe I missed something. This plugin isn’t working to solve the issue?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-live-notification/October 31, 2014 at 4:56 pm #33147@style960@michael Tested and confirmed this evening that plugin doesn’t work with BP 2.1.1 – rollback to 2.1 and it’s fine. Although even when it’s working it won’t trigger the red bubble on mobile. Having said that, I’m not sure what notification type does trigger that? Since I rolled a test site back to 2.1 no notifications are shown for replies to updates, but the email does get sent? The only front end notifications shown are when a users @handle is included. Confusing. I’m rapidly running out of patience, and faith with Buddypress.
