Question
December 27, 2014 at 12:54 pm #34222@optimysticHi there-
We are wanting a more comprehensive media experience. I know on forums you have been saying that the media plugin will eventually have more functionality like that of rt media and the more comprehensive media options. Any idea when this will develop. I have been wanting to upgrade to Buddyboss 4.0 but find the media plugin inadequate so have been waiting on an overhaul. Any insight would really help my business plan their website upgrades.

AlyssaParticipant@optimystic I’m not sure when the next major version will be released I have been told it will be relatively soon. I have been told we have albums working but I’m not sure about the other media types. It could be just a couple more weeks.
January 3, 2015 at 10:12 am #34344@jgwolfensbergerWow, this is exciting news! We’re releasing a site soon and RTMedia Pro is horribly inefficient… bloatware unfortunately with confusing image/album editing. Stoked about Media Albums! You guys are awesome.

AlyssaParticipant@optimystic we just released version 2.0 which adds friend tagging (no box tagging like Facebook though) and the ability to create albums. We also fixed some major bug issues with loading more. I believe our next step is to add more media options but I’m not 100% sure of that.
January 3, 2015 at 2:06 pm #34351@jgwolfensbergerThe timing of this is amazing for our site. Thank you guys so much. I’m already putting the Media plugin through the paces and it is fast and elegant.
Just a few minor observations that might be helpful as the plugin evolves with updates (which you might already be considering):
1. Currently, as best as I can tell, once you upload an image to an album and you then decide to delete that image, you have to delete it by either finding it on your activity feed and using the delete button (next to the comment button), or from within the album itself, you must view the image then select the little white “comment” icon that appears at the bottom of the lightbox. This will then take you to the image as an activity post, where you can then delete it. A “delete image” option from within the album will be more intuitive for average users.
2. When you create a new album, once it is created BuddyPress will issue a message at the bottom of the page that says “Sorry, there were no photos found” because of course there are no photos in the new album yet – good so far. But even if your next step is to immediately upload an image, that “Sorry…” message will remain even after the image was posted. It doesn’t go away until the page is refreshed.
3. I see how I can move an image from one album to another from the activity feed – the nifty little “Album” button – love it! But the ability to move images from one album to another would while you are IN the album be awesome… again I think it’s a matter of intuitiveness for average users.
4. Not a biggie, but I bet you guys can sell the hell out of this if you develop a conversion processes to pull RTMedia photos/albums into BuddyBoss Media.
Guys, these are NOT complaints, just a “wish list.” THANK YOU for a great media plugin.

January 5, 2015 at 9:22 am #34398@adminzenoed@tjchester, thanks for the update!
I’m trying to explore how to tag a friend, but could not figure it out how or where? Is this similar to @mention ?January 8, 2015 at 10:42 am #34503@optimysticHi there-
I really appreciate the follow-up and am glad to see movement on this, but unfortunately still find the media plugin hugely inadequate. The albums are glitchy, I have yet to figure out tagging (yes I enabled it). weird code pops up when you like an album picture. And the lack of additional media types leaves MUCH to be desired. Also- is there anyway to create a format like that of Buddypress Activity Plus, that doesn’t host all uploaded pictures in my personal wordpress media folder?
I feel it is hugely important to advance this plugin- it has been holding back my evolution with buddyboss for quite some time now.
Looking forward to your responses and thanks again for keeping me/us in the loop,
KimJanuary 8, 2015 at 10:46 am #34504@optimysticAlso- the plugin is cropping videos into a vertical rectangle. You can see my screenshot here:

January 8, 2015 at 6:09 pm #34512@jgwolfensbergerHi @optimystic –
I’m a BuddyBoss user, not tech support, but I wanted to let you know I can’t duplicate either of your issues on my site… naturally I was very interested in your concerns because I’m dumping RTMedia Pro (a feature-rich resource hog) and choosing to launch a new site with BuddyBoss Media instead. So naturally I wanted to make sure I didn’t experience the same issues you described. But I cannot duplicate either issue, YouTube formatting or the “Like” issue. I only mention this because it might be a problem unique to your site, which is certainly a tech support issue and I’d hope the BuddyBoss crew would help you through it quickly. But the features are working beautifully on my site so I just wanted to offer that maybe these are issues that can be cleared up but aren’t necessarily wide-spread shortcomings of the Media plugin. Only trying to be helpful… you might want to try opening a thread specifically on your issue because this thread seems to have become a sort of generalized discussion and I’d want you to get support on your issue quickly. Best of luck and you’re welcome to reach me if I can be helpful in some way. I’ve really been through the paces with RTMedia Pro, Activity Plus, and the entire question of reliable media options in BuddyBossy. Perhaps you have too! 🙂

AlyssaParticipantWould everyone mind creating separate support tickets so I can sort though all this and tackle each separate issue individually? Also try disabling all plugins to determine if there is a conflict, note some plugins retain config data even when disabled. @optimystic @adminzenoed @jgwolfensberger

AnonymousHey guys,
tagging can be accomplished in the activity stream, but not in “Grid” view. This is something we will solve in a future update. We’re going to update the photo overlay to include all of the stuff you see in the activity stream — comments, Like, Tag, delete, etc — all available in the overlay. People have asked for albums for a while, and since we have them functioning we thought it best to give you guys the update now. There are always improvements in the pipeline.
January 8, 2015 at 7:51 pm #34525@jgwolfensbergerGlad you released it with albums. Thanks!
January 13, 2015 at 11:57 am #34715@adminzenoedcool ! Thanks @michael
January 14, 2015 at 11:08 pm #34754@mp3stevoI’m really looking forward to this plugin growing. I’m experiencing so many issues but I think it could be due to the popular “Buddy” theme. When I load TwentyFifteen, it works as intended. I’ve reached out to the dev for “Buddy”.
I’ll create a ticket for this, but I wanted to mention that when you tag a friend the notification subject line is blank in the “Notifications” tab of the user’s profile.
