mobile view menu under profile

When you are on mobile phones and view your profile, it can be hard for new users to know they can scroll sideways for more options. Same with on group pages. As you minimize it, the menu goes under the profile header and you can scroll sideways like on buddypress. But, they have a dark overlay on each end of the menu to show you that there is more there. I can’t figure out how to do the css for that.
