Question
November 13, 2014 at 10:40 pm #33434@kalicoI would like to theme subsections of my site slightly differently — varying the title and tagline, a well as the top navigation menu. Assuming there was no way to do this with Buddy Boss alone, I attempted to use Jonradio Multiple Themes.
For dealing with child themes, the plugin suggests installing the child themes, then using the “live preview” option in WP admin to set the top menu and header (title and tagline)…then temporarily enabling the second child (to save settings), and immediately reenabling the original child (to return the site to the primary child theme). This worked almost flawlessly: the menu worked fine, but resetting the title and tagline forced the same (new) wording to the original child theme.
So now I am wondering if I’m making this too complicated, and there is some better solution….or if you have experience with the Jonradio plugin (or the suggested process), and might have some advice.
Thanks in advance.

AlyssaParticipant@mabraham welcome to the BuddyBoss community! Unfortunately I have no experience with this plugin. I think you may have better results requesting support from the plugin author.
November 14, 2014 at 7:40 pm #33468@kalicoHe said the same thing, lol 🙂 I guess I’ll have to introduce you two.
Is there any documentation available on using BuddyBoss to theme different parts of a single site differently….for example, by category? I haven’t been able to find anything.
Thanks!

AlyssaParticipant@mabraham this is not possible with the theme itself. It looks like you may be falling into a gray area here.
Perhaps if you explain what you are trying to accomplish I might be able to find an alternative solution?
November 17, 2014 at 11:42 am #33513@kalicoHi TJ. Thanks. I would like to theme subsections of my site slightly differently — varying the title and tagline, a well as the top navigation menu.
We have a Community area right now, that is themed with BuddyBoss. At the top, the title reads “Community” and the tagline is specific to that purpose We are adding a “Courses” area for training/onboarding, and although we do want to share the user database with the Community, and we do want the appearance to be nearly identical, we do not want the title and tagline to be the same. We also want to have different links in the top navigation banner, as well as the sidebar. These would allow the user to go seamlessly back and forth between the community and the training area, but each area would require it’s own set of important navigational links in the main menu.
This whole arrangement may change over time, as we will eventually be incorporating other (currently standalone) WP sites into our total network of sites, and theming them all together. So we are looking at both short and long term strategies. It may turn out that we just need to set up a multi-site network, but if we can do anything with the theme in the short term, it would get this particular phase of the project rolling forward quickly.

AlyssaParticipant@kalico I see, this seems quite complex for a WordPress theme. It will require custom coding and pull a different menu based on location within your site as well as the tagline etc. You can feel free to fill out the custom request form here: https://www.buddyboss.com/contact/
But that is about as detailed as I can go on here. Sorry.
