Question
January 1, 2015 at 9:20 am #34292@dadams-139Hello- Im new to WP and to the BBoss theme, but just had an issue where I feel like my new subscribers were spammers.
First I only have 13 users with unique names that in reality are Group names. I had set them up with a previous theme and identified only those 13 people to post items to the events calendar and to “posts” or what I call my “Announcements” page.
So I now have BuddyBoss & BuddyPress installed and was going to clear those 13 users and let each one reregister themselves and start creating their own group page, etc etc.But I noticed within 1 day of turning on the website to allow “Anyone Can register”
I had 6 new registrations .
this is with out publishing to anyone that the site was live and active. what made me suspicious was that most usernames made no sense – just a hodgepodge of letters and 5 out of 6 were associated with Yahoo mail accounts. As of now I have new membership turned off until I get some more done, but what is the purpose of the “Activate Membership” Page with in Buddypress? When I go to that page it is empty
Is there some kind of “Captha” to use for new membership registration.
Also I have installed the Plug-in “Super-Socializer” and all i have set up right now is the facebook social registration and log in . that seems to work just fine with no issues as if yet…but then again I am the only one logging in thru my facebook account (Personal account not my WP website admin acct)
So does any thing I got spammed from “Super-socializer” linked accountsAnswers

AnonymousOK to reduce spammers and false registrations use the following plugins
Akismet, WangGuard and wordfence, these will stop most if not all fake / crawlers from registering on your website
