restrictions on User Wall Posting

I would like to see the restrictions on “User Wall Posting” changed so you don’t need to enable ‘Friend Connections’ my reason is that this is so Facebook having to ask permission to be friends. I like the approach of Twitter and Google plus where you follow people you are interested in and us ‘BuddyPress Follow’ to achieve this.

Alternatively, Is there a way to hide the friend request button?
