Question
November 22, 2015 at 4:33 am #52433@mln83For the past month I have been using BuddyPress Docs which on the surface seems like a very good plugin.
I have found a number of limitations and problems with the plugin however. The main one being that there seems to be very limited support for it. I have written to the author a couple of times now but still no response after a month. On top of that the updatecycle seems quite sporadic going from 1 month up to 8 months. The Github development activity is also declining which got me worried that the developers may abandon the project at some point. See attached image.
Some of the features missing in BP Docs:
* Download ‘Docs’ created online.
* Possible option for students to save to ‘Cloud’ – e.g. Dropbox. (possibly too advanced to implement I don’t know?)
* Insert media (images) into text.
* Auto-save not working. (BuddyBoss Inbox auto-save works beautifully).
* Text is sometimes modified when editing the same document again. E.g. spaces or tabs gets removed or added seemingly at random when editing the same document again.
* Documents in folders (supposed to be added to BuddyPress Docs in a future update, but they have been working on this feature for a couple of years now).
* I would also like to use ‘Docs’ to allow students to take notes while they are following a course. Previously mentioned here: https://www.buddyboss.com/support-forums/topic/feature-request-social-learner-buddyboss-notes-search-widget/
* Integration with BuddyBoss Inbox to allow students to send ‘Docs’ or link to the document online.
* Better integration with Social Learner theme. Still some layout bugs / issues which is taking time to sort out. One example can be found here: https://www.buddyboss.com/support-forums/topic/bug-when-reading-editing-document-in-buddypress-docs/Perhaps you should consider creating a BuddyBoss Docs plugin which could be easily integrated into the Social Learner theme and used in connection with BuddyBoss Inbox as well?

AnonymousWe are already preparing roadmap for next major update for the Social Leaner and hope it will cover most of highly requested features.
RegardsNovember 23, 2015 at 7:36 am #52505@mln83Thanks @vapvarun,
This may be something to consider down the line (perhaps revisit again in 6 month time) as Social Learner gets more mature.
I am sure that a better integrated ‘Docs’ or ‘Notes’ plugin would go a long way in the growing eLearning community.
