hello please help with post formatting

I just want the featured image in the post excerpt to be in the top left with the text wrapped around it like normal. I cant figure out why the hell it is full width above the text. This looks horrible on a home page under a slider because you get 2 big images next to each other with no space. Not to mention the pictures dont need to be that large in an excerpt. Why full width like a slider?

I have been fiddling with the css to no avail for hours.
