    Perhaps this is a buddypress question? I wanted to know how to trigger email notifications by default in the theme when certain events happen. For example if I send a friend request to someone can this trigger and email notification to them?

    Hi @tgrosby, If your site send WordPress emails, without any other plugin activated the it works fine..in current version of Buddypress includes customizable email API.

    In this section you can customize, edit or add new emails.

    Previous versions of BuddyPress would send emails but there was no UI exposed to edit the content of the email or no user friendly way to create new emails.
