How to Set Up LearnDash Notes

Introduction

LearnDash Notes allows your website users to take, manage, download, and print notes directly on your WordPress site. This guide explains how to install the plugin, configure it for different post types, and enable note-taking for your learners.

Installing the Plugin

Download the Plugin

  1. Purchase and download LearnDash Notes from:
    https://snaporbital.com/learndash-notes/

Install the Plugin

Option 1: Manual Installation

  1. Extract the downloaded learndash-notes.zip file.
  2. Upload the extracted folder to your WordPress plugins directory:

yourhostname/wordpress/wp-content/plugins

Option 2: WordPress Dashboard Installation

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New
  2. Click Upload Plugin
  3. Browse to the downloaded learndash-notes.zip and click Install Now

Activate the Plugin

  1. After installation, click Activate Plugin, or
  2. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins and click Activate next to LearnDash Notes

Note: Ensure the plugin is activated before proceeding with setup.

Setting Up the Plugin

Create a Notes Page

  1. Create a new WordPress page called My Notes
  2. Add the shortcode:

[learndash_my_notes]

This page will display all notes created by logged-in users.

Configure Plugin Settings

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > LearnDash Notes
  2. Enable Note-Taking for Specific Post Types: Under Notes can be taken on, select the post types where notes should be allowed.
  3. Assign Access: Mark the WordPress roles that should have access to the Notes feature.
  4. Set the Notes Page: In Templates > All notes page, select the My Notes page you created.
  5. Configure Note Icon Placement: Go to Appearance > Note Icon Placement and choose where the Take Notes icon should appear (e.g., fixed to the bottom of the screen).
  6. Adjust any other preferred settings.
  7. Click Save Changes

Users can now click the Take Notes icon on enabled post types to start creating notes.

Usage

  1. Users can view and manage their notes from the My Notes page.
  2. Notes can be downloaded as Word documents.
  3. Notes can be printed.
  4. Notes can be reviewed for feedback.
  5. The plugin works with any WordPress theme and is fully mobile-friendly.

Q: How do I enable note-taking on custom post types?
A: Go to Settings > LearnDash Notes > Notes can be taken on and select the desired post types.
