How to Notify Course or Lesson Authors When Users Comment

Introduction

Engaging directly with feedback can boost course quality and author satisfaction. While BuddyBoss and LearnDash don’t send comment-notification emails by default, you can implement one of two methods to alert authors when someone comments on their content.

Option 1: Use BB Forums in LearnDash Lessons

Leverage the built-in discussion forums for each lesson so comments appear in the BuddyBoss Activity Feed—where authors receive notifications automatically. Simply insert the forum shortcode into your lesson content:

[bp_forums_forum id=123]

Replace 123 with your forum’s ID. Any replies will surface as activity, notifying the author via their standard BuddyBoss notifications.

Option 2: Use the wpDiscuz Plugin

Install and activate wpDiscuz, which enhances WordPress comments with real-time email alerts. Configure wpDiscuz to send notification emails to the post author whenever a new comment is added to a course or lesson page.

Note: wpDiscuz is not officially integrated or tested with BuddyBoss Theme. Feel free to try it and share your experience.
