Customer hero

Most case studies start with someone quitting their day job. This one starts with someone refusing to.

Khalid Maidan is a Band 7 Specialist MSK Physiotherapist at Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk. Every day, he treats patients with complex lower limb conditions. Every evening, he helps train the next generation of physiotherapists through Clinical Physio, an education platform he co-founded with Dr Jack Hurley, a physiotherapist turned GP in Nottinghamshire.

Between them, they have built something remarkable: a platform with over 400 hours of clinical tutorials, 134 podcast episodes, courses spanning every physiotherapy specialty from musculoskeletal to cardiac, and a mobile app rated 5.0 on the Apple App Store. Their Instagram account has 104,000 followers. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy endorsed their work as a student resource.

And Khalid still sees patients at Ipswich Hospital five days a week.

Clinical Physio exists because of a simple belief, one that drives everything they build: that the gap between graduating from university and becoming a confident, capable clinician should not be as wide as it is.

About Clinical Physio

Clinical Physio Ltd was incorporated in July 2020, right in the teeth of the first lockdown. But Khalid and Jack had been building toward this moment for years. Khalid’s social media presence was already growing. Jack had co-founded AnatomyZone, an anatomy education resource. Together, they saw an opportunity to create something more structured, more rigorous, and more useful than anything else available to physiotherapy students and early-career professionals.

Their mission is stamped across everything they do: “Building Exceptional Physiotherapists.”

The platform serves students still in university, newly qualified Band 5 NHS physiotherapists finding their feet, and experienced clinicians seeking ongoing professional development. Membership tiers range from GBP 13.99 to GBP 17.99 per month, with an annual option at GBP 197. Every tier includes CPD certificates, community access, and learning support.

Today, Clinical Physio’s content library covers masterclass courses across MSK, Neuro, Respiratory, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, and Cardiac physiotherapy. They host live webinars, maintain an on-demand library, and publish evidence-based practice articles alongside patient case studies. Their podcast, featuring the “Moments that Changed my Practice” series, has produced over 134 episodes.

Challenges

The Education Gap Nobody Was Filling

Physiotherapy students graduate with theory. They understand anatomy, biomechanics, pathology. But the bridge from classroom knowledge to real clinical confidence is steep, and it is lonely.

Newly qualified Band 5 physiotherapists walk onto NHS wards with a degree and a sense that there is an enormous amount they still do not know. The continuing professional development (CPD) options available to them were, for years, limited to expensive in-person courses, scattered YouTube videos, paywalled journal articles, and textbooks that read like they were written for exams rather than real patients.

There was no structured, progressive, affordable pathway for a new physiotherapist to go from “I passed my exams” to “I trust my clinical reasoning.”

Then lockdown arrived in 2020 and made even the in-person options disappear. The need for accessible digital CPD became urgent overnight.

Attention Without Infrastructure

Khalid had built something valuable on social media. With 104,000 Instagram followers, an active YouTube channel, TikTok presence, and Facebook community, Clinical Physio already had a significant audience of physiotherapy students and professionals.

But social media is a broadcast tool, not an education platform. An Instagram carousel about shoulder assessment cannot replace a structured course with progression, assessment, and a CPD certificate at the end. A TikTok video on 3D anatomy is engaging. It is not a learning pathway.

Clinical Physio needed to make a leap: from content that builds awareness to a platform that delivers education. And healthcare education carries demands that most online courses never face. The content must be evidence-based. It must be clinically accurate. It must deliver verifiable CPD that professionals can report to their regulatory bodies. Peer discussion matters because physiotherapy is a practice-based discipline where clinicians learn from each other’s cases and reasoning.

There was one more constraint, and it was non-negotiable: the platform had to work on mobile. Physiotherapists are not sitting at desks all day. They are moving between patients, on ward rounds, in clinic rooms. If a clinician has twenty minutes between appointments, the platform needs to be ready in their pocket.

“Providing free, accessible, and high-quality physiotherapy education to students and clinicians globally.”

Community, Courses, and Mobile Access on One Platform

Clinical Physio chose BuddyBoss Platform, LearnDash, and the BuddyBoss App as their technology stack. This gave them three layers that work together: community, course delivery, and mobile access.

The community layer is where physiotherapists connect. BuddyBoss Platform provides forums and groups for peer learning, member profiles, activity feeds, and direct messaging. This is not a passive content library. It is a professional community where clinicians worldwide discuss clinical cases, share their reasoning, challenge each other’s approaches, and learn from practice rather than just theory.

For a profession where clinical reasoning improves through exposure to diverse cases, this kind of peer community is not a nice extra. It is core to the educational model.

The course delivery layer runs on LearnDash, integrated directly into the BuddyBoss environment. Clinical Physio delivers structured masterclass courses across every physiotherapy specialty. Each course follows a deliberate progression, building from foundational concepts to advanced clinical reasoning. On completion, members receive personalized CPD certificates they can use for their professional development records.

The content library now exceeds 400 hours of tutorials. That includes live webinars where members interact with educators in real time, an on-demand webinar library, evidence-based practice articles, and patient case studies that walk through clinical reasoning from assessment to treatment.

The mobile layer is what makes the whole system work for busy clinicians. The BuddyBoss App gives Clinical Physio a native iOS and Android presence. Members access courses, community discussions, and podcast content from their phones. A physiotherapist finishing a morning clinic can pull up a fifteen-minute tutorial during lunch. A student on placement can check a case discussion between patients. A senior clinician commuting home can listen to the latest podcast episode.

The app is rated 5.0 on the Apple App Store. For a healthcare education audience that expects reliability and quality from their professional tools, that rating says something.

The Complete Stack

What makes Clinical Physio’s implementation notable is that it uses the full BuddyBoss product ecosystem. Platform for community. LearnDash for course delivery. BuddyBoss App for mobile. BuddyBoss Social Login for frictionless access. This is not a customer using one feature. It is the complete stack working together for a regulated, credential-sensitive industry.

Membership That Serves Every Stage

Clinical Physio structured their membership to meet learners wherever they are. The Essential tier at GBP 13.99 per month provides access to courses, CPD certificates, forums, groups, written resources, podcasts, and learning support. The Premium tier at GBP 17.99 per month adds more advanced content. The Annual tier at GBP 197 per year includes extras like 3D anatomy teaching and specialist sports physiotherapy courses.

Every tier includes community access. This is a deliberate choice. Clinical Physio understands that peer learning is not a premium feature. It is fundamental to how physiotherapists develop.

5.0 out of 5 iOS app rating on the Apple App Store. 104,000+ Instagram followers driving awareness and feeding platform growth. 400+ hours of tutorial content across every physiotherapy specialty. 134+ podcast episodes in the “Moments that Changed my Practice” series and beyond. CSP endorsement: The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy featured Clinical Physio in their Frontline Student Special in September 2020. Multi-specialty coverage: MSK, Neuro, Respiratory, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, and Cardiac physiotherapy. Global reach: A worldwide community of physiotherapy students and qualified professionals.

But the number that matters most is not on a dashboard. It is this: Khalid Maidan still works full-time as an NHS Band 7 specialist physiotherapist. He treats patients every single day. That is not a footnote. It is the foundation of everything Clinical Physio offers.

When your educator is still practicing, the content stays current. The clinical examples are real. The case discussions draw from this week’s ward round, not from a textbook published five years ago. Khalid’s continued clinical practice is not something that happens despite Clinical Physio. It is what makes Clinical Physio credible.

Conclusion

Clinical Physio proves something important: BuddyBoss, LearnDash, and the BuddyBoss App work for regulated healthcare education, not just coaching, lifestyle content, or general interest courses.

Healthcare is a high-trust environment. Clinicians need content that is evidence-based, peer-reviewed, and professionally certified. They need a platform that takes their profession as seriously as they do. Clinical Physio built exactly that on BuddyBoss.

It also proves something about who can build an education platform. Every other case study features a full-time entrepreneur who went all in on their business. Khalid Maidan did not quit his NHS job. He built Clinical Physio alongside it. If you are a working professional with deep expertise and a side project waiting to become something bigger, Clinical Physio is your proof of concept.

A Band 7 physiotherapist in Suffolk and a GP in Nottinghamshire set out to build exceptional physiotherapists. With BuddyBoss as their platform, they are doing exactly that, one course, one community discussion, and one CPD certificate at a time.
