REQUIRES: PRO PLAN OR HIGHER    •    Last updated: Mar 12, 2026    •    ~4 min read

The Member Directory settings control how members are displayed and interacted with across your community. You can customize the layout view, choose which member details are visible in directory cards, and enable profile actions like Follow, Connect, and Send Message. This manual walks you through each setting area.

Accessing Member Directory Settings

To access these settings, navigate to your WordPress Dashboard, go to BuddyBoss > Settings > Member Profiles, then click Member Directory from the left menu.

Directory Views

The Enabled View(s) setting determines which layout options are available to members when browsing the directory. The Default View setting determines the initial layout members see when they first visit the directory. The available view options are:

  • Grid: Displays members in a card-style layout.
  • List: Displays members in a row-based layout.
  • Grid and List: Allows members to toggle between both views.

Directory Elements

The Elements section controls which member details are shown on directory cards. Toggle each item on or off to highlight the information most relevant to your community:

  • Online Status: Shows whether the member is currently active on the site.
  • Profile Type: Displays the member’s assigned profile type.
  • Followers: Shows the member’s follower count.
  • Last Active: Displays the member’s most recent activity timestamp.
  • Joined Date: Shows when the member joined the community.

Profile Actions

The Profile Actions section controls which interaction buttons appear on member cards in the directory. Enable the actions you want members to be able to take directly from the directory:

  • Follow: Allow members to follow other users from the directory.
  • Connect: Enable member connection requests directly from the directory.
  • Send Message: Allow members to send a direct message to another member from the directory.

Primary Action Button

The Primary Action setting lets you select which action is highlighted as the main button on each member card – for example, None, Follow, Connect, or Send Message. The selected action will display as the prominent button, while any other enabled actions appear as secondary options. Choose the action that best reflects the kind of interaction you want to encourage in your community.
