Configure Pusher Settings in BuddyBoss Platform

REQUIRES: PRO PLAN OR HIGHER    •    Last updated: Mar 12, 2026    •    ~3 min read

The Pusher Settings connect your site with Pusher Channels, a WebSocket service that powers real-time private messaging in BuddyBoss — allowing members to send and receive messages instantly across devices without refreshing the page. This manual walks you through connecting Pusher and enabling live messaging.

Connecting Pusher

First create a Pusher Channels application in your Pusher account. Then navigate to your WordPress Dashboard, go to BuddyBoss > Settings > Pusher Settings. Enter your Pusher app credentials — App ID, App Key, Secret Key, and Cluster — then click Connect. The status updates to Connected once established.

In your Pusher Channels application settings, also enable Client events and Authorized connections — both are required for real-time messaging to function correctly.

Enable Live Messaging

After connecting Pusher, locate the Enable Feature section and enable the Live Messaging toggle. Once enabled, members can send and receive messages instantly and sync conversations across multiple devices in real time.
