Introduction
Google Play regularly updates its Target API level requirements to improve app security, privacy, and compatibility with the latest Android devices.
If your BuddyBoss App does not meet Google’s required Target API level, you may receive an email titled “Upcoming API Level Requirement” or “Target API level requirements for Google Play.”
This article explains what these notifications mean, what impact they have on your app, and what actions you should take.
What Is the Target API Level?
The Target API level tells Android which version of the Android operating system your app has been designed and tested to support.
Each year, Google requires apps on Google Play to target a more recent Android version to ensure they:
- Support the latest Android features.
- Meet current security and privacy standards.
- Provide a better experience on newer Android devices.
Apps that do not meet Google’s required Target API level may become unavailable to users running newer versions of Android.
Why Did I Receive This Email?
Google sends this notification when your app’s current Target API level will soon fall below the minimum requirement for Google Play.
Receiving this email does not necessarily mean your app has been removed. Instead, it serves as an advance notice that your app must be updated before Google’s enforcement deadline.
The email typically includes:
- The affected app.
- Your app’s current Target API level.
- Google’s required Target API level.
- The compliance deadline.
- Instructions for updating your app.
What Happens If I Don’t Update?
If your app is not updated before the deadline, Google may:
- Prevent new versions of your app from being published.
- Limit the visibility of your app on Google Play.
- Prevent users with newer Android devices from discovering or installing your app.
- Eventually remove the app from Google Play if additional policy requirements are not met.
Existing users who already have your app installed can typically continue using it, but new users on supported Android versions may no longer be able to install it.
What Should BuddyBoss Customers Do?
If you receive an Upcoming API Level Requirement email:
- Review the email carefully and note the compliance deadline.
- Contact BuddyBoss Support as soon as possible.
- Include the complete Google Play email when creating your support request.
- Do not ignore the notification, even if your app is currently working normally.
Early action provides enough time to prepare, build, test, and publish an updated version of your app before Google’s deadline.
If You Have a BuddyBoss Done For You App
If your BuddyBoss App is managed through the Done For You service:
- Forward the Google Play notification to BuddyBoss Support immediately.
- Our team will determine whether your app requires an update.
- If necessary, a new app build will be prepared using the required Android SDK and Target API level.
- Once testing is complete, the updated app will be submitted to Google Play for review.
