What is BuddyPress User Badges?
BuddyPress User Badges is a premium plugin by BuddyDev that lets community administrators create custom visual badges and assign them to members in BuddyBoss. Each badge is an image you upload — a logo, icon, or illustration — that appears on member profile pages, in the member directory listing, and inside group member lists. Members collect the badges assigned to them and other community members can see those badges wherever profiles appear across the BuddyBoss community.
Badge assignment works three ways. Administrators assign badges manually to specific members for recognition that requires human judgment — a top contributor, a founding member, a verified expert. Badges can also be assigned automatically by WordPress role so every member with a given role receives the badge for that role without any manual work. If your BuddyBoss community uses member types, you can assign badges to member types so every member in a type gets the associated badge automatically when their type is set. Administrators control the display order of each member’s badges through a drag-and-drop interface, and individual badges can be activated or deactivated at any time.
BuddyPress User Badges is developed by BuddyDev and available at $39 per year. It is fully compatible with BuddyBoss Platform and tested with BuddyPress 14.4.0 and WordPress 6.9.

Custom Badge Creation with Image Upload
Create as many badges as your community needs. Each badge is an image you upload in PNG, JPG, or SVG format. Name each badge, set the display size, and activate or deactivate it at any time. There is no limit on the number of badges you can create, and each badge can be assigned to as many members as needed.
Manual Badge Assignment to Individual Members
Assign any badge to any individual member directly from the WordPress admin. Use manual assignment for recognitions that require human judgment, such as a top contributor badge, a founding member badge, or a verified expert badge. A single member can hold multiple badges, and each badge appears on their BuddyBoss profile and in the member directory.
Automatic Role-Based Badge Assignment
Assign a badge to a WordPress user role and every member with that role receives the badge automatically. New members added to the role get the badge without any admin action. Remove a member from the role and the badge is removed. Use role-based assignment for badges that reflect account type, subscription level, or moderation status.
Member Type Badge Assignment
Assign badges to BuddyBoss member types so every member in a type automatically carries the associated badge. When a member’s type changes, their badges update to reflect the new type without any manual admin work. Use member type badges to visually distinguish student members from instructors, free members from paid members, or any other grouping your community uses.
Drag-and-Drop Badge Display Order
Control the order badges appear on member profiles and in the member directory using a drag-and-drop interface in the admin. The order you set reflects exactly on the front end so the most important or prominent badges appear first. Each badge can also be toggled active or inactive without deleting it, making it easy to run time-limited recognition campaigns.
Badges Display Across Profiles, Directory, and Groups
Badges appear wherever members appear in BuddyBoss: on their individual profile page, in the member directory listing, and inside group member lists. A shortcode is also available to display a dedicated badge listing on any page. Badge position relative to the member name is configurable, and the default display size of 32px can be adjusted via CSS.

How to Set Up BuddyPress User Badges with BuddyBoss
Follow these steps to add custom member badges to your BuddyBoss community:

Purchase and Install the Plugin
Purchase BuddyPress User Badges from buddydev.com and install it via Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin. Activate the plugin. It detects BuddyBoss Platform automatically and integrates with the member directory and profile pages without additional configuration steps.

Create Your Badges
Go to the BuddyPress User Badges menu in the WordPress admin and create your first badge. Upload a badge image in PNG, JPG, or SVG format, give the badge a name, and save it. Repeat for each badge you want to use. Arrange the badges in the order you want them to appear on member profiles using the drag-and-drop list.

Assign Badges by Role or Member Type
Open each badge and assign it to a WordPress role or BuddyBoss member type. Every current and future member matching that role or type will receive the badge automatically. For badges that reflect subscription tiers, map each badge to the corresponding role your membership plugin assigns. For badges that reflect community roles, map to the member types you have configured in BuddyBoss.

Manually Assign Badges to Individual Members
For badges that require judgment rather than a rule, go to the member’s profile in the WordPress admin and assign the badge directly. Use this for top contributor badges, founding member badges, verified expert badges, or any recognition that does not map to a role or member type. The member sees the badge immediately on their profile and in the directory.

Verify Display and Adjust Badge Order
Visit a member’s profile and the member directory as a logged-in user to confirm badges are displaying correctly and in the right order. Return to the badge list and drag badges into the preferred display sequence if needed. Deactivate any badge you want to temporarily stop displaying without deleting it so the setup is preserved for future use.
