iFlyChat + BuddyBoss Integration
Real-Time Chat That Keeps Your Members Talking Inside Your Community
What is iFlyChat?
iFlyChat is a cloud-based real-time chat plugin built for community and social networking websites. It adds a pop-up chat bar to your BuddyBoss site where members can start one-on-one private conversations or join public chat rooms without leaving the page. When integrated with BuddyBoss, iFlyChat pulls member avatars and profile links directly from BuddyBoss profiles and shows each member’s BuddyPress friend list in the chat sidebar, so members start conversations with people they already know inside your community.
All chat processing happens on iFlyChat’s own cloud servers rather than your WordPress host, so live chat runs without slowing down your BuddyBoss site, even with many members chatting at once.
iFlyChat is free to install from WordPress.org and includes an iFlyChat.com account for your API key. Paid enterprise plans add higher chat volume, dedicated support, and advanced moderation for larger communities.
Key Features of iFlyChat
One-on-One Private Chat
Members open a private chat window with any online member directly from the chat bar. Conversations are instant, page-by-page persistent, and never require leaving your community site.
Public Chat Rooms
Create multiple public chat rooms where members discuss topics together in real time. Rooms can be embedded on any page using a shortcode or appear in the site-wide pop-up chat bar.
BuddyPress Friend List Integration
The chat sidebar shows each member’s BuddyBoss friend list instead of a raw list of all online users. Members see who they know and start conversations with their connections first.
Cloud-Based Architecture
All chat processing runs on iFlyChat’s cloud servers, not your WordPress host. Your site handles zero chat load regardless of how many members are online and chatting simultaneously.
Chat Moderation Tools
Admins and moderators can delete individual messages, clear entire chat histories, kick users, or apply IP-based bans. Bad word filters and URL spam controls run automatically in all rooms.
Chat Logging and History
All chat messages are archived and accessible. Public room logs can be displayed on any page using a shortcode, and private conversation history persists across page loads so members pick up where they left off.

Use Cases and Examples
Course Communities with Live Study Sessions
Online course platforms embed iFlyChat rooms on lesson pages so students ask questions and help each other in real time while watching course content. Instructors join the chat room during live lessons to answer questions instantly, and students see BuddyBoss profile links next to each message so they can visit a classmate’s profile and connect after the session. Engagement during lessons increases because students no longer need to leave the page to find help.

Membership Communities with Interest-Based Chat Rooms
Membership sites create separate iFlyChat rooms for different topics, interests, or membership tiers and embed each room on its own dedicated page. Members in the fitness room discuss workouts while members in the business room exchange leads, and each conversation stays focused without mixing into a single global feed. Because iFlyChat shows BuddyBoss friend lists in the sidebar, members see which of their connections are active in each room and jump into conversations together.

Professional Networks with Real-Time Networking
Professional communities use iFlyChat’s private one-on-one chat so members reach out to each other directly without sharing personal contact information. When a member clicks a BuddyBoss profile link inside the chat, they can view the full profile, check connections, and decide whether to send a friend request, all inside the community. Admins use chat logging to review conversation volume and identify the most active members for moderation or recognition in BuddyBoss activity feeds.

Go to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New, search for “iFlyChat,” and click Install and Activate. The plugin is free to install from WordPress.org.

Paste API Key and Configure
Go to Dashboard > Settings > iFlyChat. Paste your API key, then configure your chat settings: choose whether guests can chat, set your public room name, and enable BuddyPress integration to pull member avatars and friend lists.
4
Set Moderation Rules
In the iFlyChat settings page, configure bad word filters, URL spam controls, and assign moderator roles to trusted BuddyBoss members. Set page-level visibility rules to show or hide chat on specific pages.
5

Log in as two different members and confirm the chat bar appears, BuddyBoss avatars load correctly, and private messages deliver in real time. Once confirmed, your community chat is live.
Benefits of Integrating iFlyChat with BuddyBoss
Add Use Case Image 1
- Profile-Linked Chat Identity: iFlyChat displays each member’s BuddyBoss avatar and links their name directly to their BuddyBoss profile inside every chat window. Members see who they are talking to, visit profiles mid-conversation, and decide to connect as friends without switching tabs or searching the member directory.
- Friend-List Prioritized Sidebar: Instead of showing a raw list of every online member, iFlyChat filters the chat sidebar to show each member’s BuddyBoss friends first. Members start conversations with people they already know, which increases the quality and frequency of private chat interactions across your community.
- Zero Server Load: All chat processing runs on iFlyChat’s cloud infrastructure, so your BuddyBoss host handles no chat traffic. Communities with hundreds of concurrent chatters see no impact on page speed or server performance, and you don’t need to upgrade hosting to support live chat.
- Instant Engagement Without Page Switching: The pop-up chat bar stays visible as members browse your BuddyBoss activity feeds, course pages, and group forums. Members respond to messages and continue browsing at the same time, which keeps them on your site longer and increases overall session depth.

- Admin Moderation Without Leaving WordPress: All iFlyChat moderation controls, including bad word filters, user bans, and message deletion, are accessible from your WordPress admin panel. Moderators don’t need a separate dashboard login, and bans apply instantly across all rooms and private conversations.
- Embedded Topic Rooms Alongside Community Content: Use iFlyChat shortcodes to embed a dedicated chat room directly on any BuddyBoss page, group, or course page. Members discuss the content on the page without opening a separate chat panel, creating a tighter connection between community conversations and your core content.
