Install Loco Translate
Search for “Loco Translate” in WordPress > Plugins > Add New and install the plugin by Tim Whitlock. Activate it. Loco Translate appears as a new top-level menu item in your WordPress admin sidebar. No registration or external account is required to use the core translation features.

Translate BuddyBoss Theme Strings
Go to Loco Translate > Themes and select BuddyBoss Theme from the list. Click Add Language, choose your target language, and select where to save the file — use the system location for your language to protect it from updates. Loco extracts all translatable strings from the theme. Click Auto Translate to use an AI service for a first pass, then review and save.

Translate BuddyBoss Platform Strings
Go to Loco Translate > Plugins and select BuddyBoss Platform from the list. Follow the same process: add your language, extract strings, auto-translate or translate manually, and save to the protected location. Repeat for any BuddyBoss add-ons you have installed.

Connect an AI Translation Service
Go to Loco Translate > Settings > Translation APIs and add your API key for DeepL, Google, Microsoft, or OpenAI. Once configured, the Auto Translate button in any translation editor will use that service to fill in all untranslated strings — significantly reducing manual work for large BuddyBoss translation files.

Maintain Translations After BuddyBoss Updates
After each BuddyBoss Theme or Platform update, go to Loco Translate > Themes or Plugins, select your language file, and click Sync. Loco extracts any new strings added in the update and adds them to your translation file as blanks. Translate the new strings and save — your existing translations are untouched.
