MediaPress + BuddyBoss

Turn your community into a visual space where members share photos, videos, and media just like Facebook.

What is MediaPress

MediaPress is a free gallery plugin built specifically for BuddyPress. It adds photo, video, audio, and document galleries to member profiles and groups, plus direct media upload to your activity feed. Think of it as Facebook-style media sharing for your BuddyBoss community.

Members can upload media three ways: directly from the activity update box, from their profile gallery page, or inside group galleries. Photos uploaded through activity automatically create wall albums. Group admins control who can upload to group galleries. Every media type (photos, videos, audio, docs) gets its own gallery view with grid layouts, playlists for audio and video, and a lightbox for photos.

Privacy settings give members full control. Set galleries to public, logged-in only, private, friends only, or group only. MediaPress works natively with BuddyBoss Platform without needing the BuddyPress plugin installed separately. Developers get a clean API for extending media types, gallery views, and storage options.

Key features of MediaPress

Activity Feed Upload

Members upload photos, videos, and audio directly from the activity update box. Media appears inline in the feed with automatic album creation.

Group Galleries

Every group gets photo, video, audio, and document galleries. Group admins control upload permissions and moderate content before it goes live.

Granular Privacy

Members choose privacy for each gallery: public, logged-in only, private, friends only, or group only. No blanket settings.

Embed Remote Media

Paste YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook video links directly into galleries. Remote files from other servers embed without reuploading.

Playlist Views

Audio and video galleries automatically display as playlists. Members click through tracks without leaving the page.

Admin Dashboard Control

How to Integrate MediaPress with BuddyBoss

Setting up MediaPress with BuddyBoss takes just a few minutes. Follow these steps to get started:

1

Install BuddyBoss Platform

MediaPress requires BuddyBoss Platform to work. Install and activate BuddyBoss Platform from your WordPress dashboard. You do not need the separate BuddyPress plugin.

2

Download and Install MediaPress

Download MediaPress from WordPress.org. Upload the plugin via Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Upload. Activate MediaPress after installation completes.

3

Configure Settings

Go to Dashboard > MediaPress > Settings. Click Save Changes to initialize default settings. Configure which components (sitewide, users, groups) can use galleries. Set default privacy levels and enable media types you want available.

4

Assign Gallery Page

Go to Dashboard > MediaPress > Settings > BuddyPress tab. Click the Repair button to associate a page for the media gallery. Enable the Gallery Directory page option to create a sitewide gallery directory.

5

Test Media Upload

Visit your site front end. Go to your profile or a test group. Look for gallery tabs or upload buttons in the activity feed. Upload a test photo to verify everything works. Check privacy settings and gallery views.

Add Benefit Image 1

  • Frictionless Sharing: Members upload from the activity box without navigating away. Photos appear instantly in the feed with automatic album creation. No separate gallery page visits required.
  • Native Profile Integration: Gallery tabs appear alongside connections, groups, and settings tabs. Media lives inside member profiles, not a separate section. Members control their media from the same interface they use for everything else.
  • Zero Third-Party Services: All media stays on your server. No external gallery services, no monthly fees for storage. You own every image, video, and audio file uploaded to your community.
  • Group Content Boundaries: Group galleries exist inside group spaces. Only group members access group media. Private groups keep private media private. No separate permissions system to configure.
