WP Stream + BuddyBoss Integration
See Every Change in Your BuddyBoss Community with a Complete Audit Trail
What is WP Stream?
WP Stream is a WordPress activity logging plugin that records every change made in your WordPress admin, giving you a searchable, filterable audit trail of who did what and when. With 80,000+ active installations and a built-in BuddyPress connector, it extends that logging directly into your BuddyBoss community, tracking group management, member activity, profile field changes, and component settings without any additional configuration.
When the BuddyPress connector is active on a BuddyBoss site, Stream logs group creation, updates, and deletions alongside every member join, leave, promotion, demotion, ban, and removal. Activity stream events like spam markings and admin edits are captured. Changes to BuddyBoss profile fields and field groups, and any component activations or deactivations, all appear in the Stream log with the acting user, timestamp, and a direct link to the affected item.
WP Stream is free, developed and maintained by XWP, and available from the WordPress plugin repository. Logs can be filtered by user, role, context, action type, or IP address, and exported as CSV or JSON. Optional extensions connect Stream to Slack for real-time alerts and Papertrail for long-term log archival and S3 backup.
Key Features of WP Stream
BuddyBoss Group Activity Logging
Logs every group management action in BuddyBoss: group creation, updates, and deletion, plus every member join, leave, promotion, demotion, ban, and removal. Each log entry shows the acting admin or member, the affected group, and a timestamp with a direct link to the group in your WordPress admin.
Member Activity Stream Monitoring
Captures admin actions taken on the BuddyBoss activity stream, including activity deletions, spam markings, ham unmarkings, and admin edits. Every moderation action in the activity feed is attributed to the admin who performed it, giving you a complete record of content moderation decisions.
BuddyBoss Profile Field Change Tracking
Records all changes to BuddyBoss profile fields and profile field groups, including creation, updates, and deletions. When an admin reorganizes member profile structures or adds new fields to member types, every change appears in the Stream log with the admin’s identity and the exact modification made.
Component Settings Audit Trail
Tracks BuddyBoss component activations and deactivations, page assignments, and configuration changes. Any time an admin enables or disables a BuddyBoss feature or reassigns the page a component points to, Stream records the change, the admin responsible, and the previous and new values.
Real-Time Filtering and Search
Filter the Stream log by user, user role, context (groups, activity, profile fields, components), action type (created, updated, deleted, promoted, banned), date range, or IP address. Live activity updates display new log entries without a page refresh. Export any filtered view as CSV or JSON for external reporting.
Alerts and External Integrations
Set up email alerts for specific log triggers so admins are notified when high-priority changes happen in BuddyBoss. Optional extensions forward Stream records to Slack channels in real time or send logs to Papertrail for long-term archival with S3 backup, keeping your audit history outside WordPress where it cannot be tampered with.

Ready to Add an Audit Trail to Your BuddyBoss Community?
WP Stream’s built-in BuddyPress connector starts logging BuddyBoss group, activity, and profile field changes the moment you activate it.
Use Cases and Examples
Membership Sites Tracking Moderation Actions Across Admins
Membership site owners with multiple moderators use WP Stream to maintain a record of every content moderation decision made in BuddyBoss. When a moderator deletes an activity post, marks content as spam, or removes a member from a group, Stream records the action with the moderator’s identity and a timestamp. Site owners can filter logs by moderator to review individual admin activity or audit a specific incident without relying on memory or manual records.

Professional Networks Maintaining Admin Accountability
Professional communities managed by a team of administrators use WP Stream to keep every admin accountable for changes they make to the BuddyBoss platform. Group structure changes, profile field reorganizations, and component configuration edits all appear in the log attributed to the specific admin who made them. When a community setting changes unexpectedly, admins can trace the change back to its source in seconds rather than hours.

Compliance-Conscious Organizations Keeping Long-Term Audit Records
Organizations with compliance or data governance requirements use WP Stream with the Papertrail extension to archive BuddyBoss activity logs outside WordPress in S3-backed storage. Logs for group membership changes, profile field updates, and component setting modifications are preserved long-term and remain tamper-proof even if the WordPress database is modified. CSV and JSON exports make it straightforward to produce records for internal audits or external reviews.

How to Integrate WP Stream with BuddyBoss
Setting up WP Stream with BuddyBoss takes just a few minutes. Follow these steps to get started:
1
Install WP Stream
Download and install WP Stream free from WordPress.org at Plugins > Add New. Search for “Stream” and activate the plugin. No purchase or license key is required.
2
Verify the BuddyPress Connector is Active
Go to Stream > Settings > Connectors in your WordPress admin. Confirm the BuddyPress connector is enabled. Because BuddyBoss Platform is built on BuddyPress, this connector covers all BuddyBoss group, activity, profile field, and component logging automatically.
3
Configure Exclude Rules
Go to Stream > Settings > Exclude to define which users, roles, or action types should not be logged. For example, exclude super admins from routine log entries to keep the log focused on actions that need review. Exclude rules keep logs clean and reduce noise for high-volume BuddyBoss sites.
4
Set Up Alerts for Key Events
Configure email alerts to notify site owners when specific BuddyBoss events occur, such as group deletions, member bans, or component deactivations. Optionally install the Stream to Slack extension to forward high-priority log entries to a Slack channel so your team is alerted in real time.
5
Filter and Review Logs
Go to Stream > Records to view the live activity log. Use the filter dropdowns to narrow by user, role, BuddyBoss context (groups, activity, profile fields, components), action type, date range, or IP address. Export any filtered view as CSV or JSON for offline reporting or compliance documentation.
Benefits of Integrating WP Stream with BuddyBoss
Add Use Case Image 1
- Full Visibility into BuddyBoss Group Changes: Every group creation, update, deletion, and membership change is logged with the acting user’s identity. Community managers can see at a glance which groups were created or deleted in the last 30 days, which members were banned, and which admins promoted or demoted other members, all from a single filtered view.
- Complete Member Activity Audit Trail: Admin moderation actions taken in the BuddyBoss activity stream are attributed to the admin who performed them. When a spam complaint arises or a member disputes a content removal, site owners can pull the exact log entry showing which admin acted, what they did, and when, without relying on the admin’s recollection.
- Profile Field Change History: Changes to BuddyBoss profile fields and field groups are tracked with before-and-after context. When a profile field is deleted or reorganized and members notice their profile data looks different, admins can identify exactly what changed and when without manually comparing settings across time.
- Multi-Admin Accountability Without Manual Coordination: Sites with multiple admins or moderators no longer need to coordinate through Slack or email to track who changed what. Stream creates a shared record all admins can reference. When an unexpected BuddyBoss setting change causes a community issue, any admin can trace it back to its source in the log immediately.

- Real-Time Alerts for Critical Community Events: Email notifications and Slack alerts fire the moment high-priority BuddyBoss events occur, such as a group being deleted or a key component being deactivated. Admins are informed immediately rather than discovering problems after members have already noticed them.
- Exportable Logs for Compliance and Reporting: Any filtered view of the Stream log can be exported as CSV or JSON with one click. Pair it with the Papertrail extension to archive BuddyBoss audit records outside WordPress in S3-backed storage, keeping logs tamper-proof and accessible for long-term compliance needs or internal governance reviews.
