Introduction
BuddyBoss allows you to automatically remove old notifications to help keep your database clean and optimized. You can configure separate retention periods for read and unread notifications, ensuring notifications are automatically deleted after a specified amount of time.
Note: Notification cleanup runs automatically once per day using WordPress cron. It does not run during page loads.
Before You Begin
The Auto-delete feature is included with the BuddyBoss Tools plugin.
Before configuring automatic notification cleanup:
- Log in to your BuddyBoss account: Â https://buddyboss.com/my-account/
- Navigate to My Account > Downloads.
- Download the BuddyBoss Tools plugin under your BuddyBoss Theme plugins.
- Install and activate the plugin on your WordPress website.
Once the plugin is activated, the Auto-delete option will be available under the BuddyBoss Tools settings.
Access the Auto-delete Settings
To configure automatic notification cleanup:
- Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- Go to BuddyBoss > Settings.
- Click Tools.
- Select Auto-delete.
Configure Read Notifications
Read notifications are notifications that members have already opened.
To enable automatic deletion:
- Turn on the Read notifications toggle.
- Enter how long read notifications should be kept.
- Select the appropriate time unit from the dropdown (for example, Days, Months, or Years).
- Click Save Changes.
Configure Unread Notifications
Unread notifications are notifications that members have not yet viewed.
To enable automatic deletion:
- Turn on the Unread notifications toggle.
- Specify how long unread notifications should be retained.
- Select the appropriate time unit.
- Click Save Changes.
Important: Since unread notifications have not been seen by members, consider using a longer retention period before enabling automatic deletion.
